i just came to think that even though the british were not smart enough to be the first on the south pole (we norwegians were) then they WERE smart enough to have a monarch who was the first, and so far the only one to clam antarctica in her title. as part of her title is : "and of her other territories and realms queen" and since it is officially called british antarctic TERRITORY, then it follows that she is queen of british antarctic territory. this fact together with the fact that they have this nice coat of arms :  and that they are the only nation to have minted a coin for the area: should give her majesty the right to all of antarctica, so it could change name to simply antarctic territory. so in a perfect world the other nations should give up their claims and every person should swear an oath of loyalty to her  majesty
before being allowed to enter the continent, and the flag on the british arctic territory be the only one allowed to hoist. that way we could wipe out completely republicanism from a whole continent. just a crazy thought but i would love to see it happen.

It's 'realms and territories'. I like the whimsy, though. Perhaps the Prince of Wales could add the Penguin to his titles, on the model of the Dauphin*.

Somehow I don't picture Prince Charles taking any great pleasure being refered to as 'H.R.H. The Penguin".  There are some other titles that are associated with the animal world.  The Queen Mother of Swaziland is the "Great She-Elephant" and the Emperors of Ethiopia were often refered to as the "Lion of Judah" although strictly speaking that wasn't actually a title, but part of a moto (The Lion of Judah Has Prevailed, or has Conquered) refering to Christ, that was proclaimed before the name and titles of the monarch.

The Lion of Judah hath prevailed.

Ethiopia stretches her hands unto God (Quote from Psalm 68 which served as the Imperial Motto of the Ethiopian Empire)

"God and history shall remember your judgment." (Quote from Emperor Haile Selassie I's speech to the League of Nations to plead for assistance against the Italian Invasion, 1936.)
