The Romanovs have been descendants of the Oldenburg dynasty in the male line since 1762. The Oldenburg dynasty is the royal dynasty of Denmark, Norway and Greece and the ducal dynasty of Schleswig and Holstein. The Romanovs are descended from the Holstein-Gottorps, who are a cadet branch of the Oldenburgs. The current monarchs of Denmark and Norway belong to the Gl├╝cksburgs, who are another cadet branch of the Oldenburgs.
The Oldenburgs are descendants of King Valdemar I of Denmark, who was the King of Denmark from 1157 to 1182. The mother of King Valdemar I of Denmark was a Rurikid.

This seems to be in the wrong place.

This thread was originally in the genealogical section, until Peter moved it here.

That is correct. Our resident troll originally put it in the European Royal Genealogy section. which was the wrong place. It was no attempt to start a serious genealogical discussion, which the commonplace amounting to banality it contains could never do (and which he would not by any means be equipped for). It was just him trying to put his marker on the one part of the forum not yet bearing it, no doubt anticipating a nice long thread where he could spout all his usual uninformed opinions. Which is not what the section is for. I could have simply deleted the thread, but moved it here instead. So if you think it's in the wrong place now then blame me. I certainly wasn't having it where it was.

I do think that my extensive and prolonged labours building the section in the first place entitle me to a certain amount of discretion as to what goes into it. Of course all genuine contributions are very much welcomed, in which regard Murtagon has gladdened my heart in recent months. But this sort of thing is not. It's not like I do this all the time, only one person before has had his contribution ejected by me. That was CyrilSebastian, whom you probably remember, and again there was to my mind a good reason to keep him out. He was not exactly a troll but the sheer volume and inconsequentiality of his contributions made him in effect a spammer.

That's fair enough. I think Royalcello should perhaps delete it though, as it doesn't belong here either.

It concerns European royalty, ostensibly at least. Where else would you have put it? It was actually our resident troll's second attempt at infecting the section. The first is also to be found here, a purported enquiry about the Habsburg ancestry of today's monarchs, a question anyone with a genuine interest could have answered from his own head. Which is what I did, meeting the request as well as moving the thread. Not only was there no acknowledgement or thanks for providing the information, which I never expected, there was also no attempt to make any use of it. Which to my mind demonstrates that 'purported' is an appropriate adjective to apply to the enquiry.

I suppose on balance it's a little harsh to delete it. You're probably right it's best here then.
