Some person (?), or possibly spambot, is busily posting link-laden and somewhat tangential messages all over the place. In case anyone sleepily wakes up, sees a message and clicks on a link without thinking, DON'T. Quite likely they are full of viruses. Hopefully Theodore will soon remove the nuisance,, but until he does I thought I would post a general warning, since I can't keep up with the rate of posting from this Cocosan.

I did accidentally click one, and it is little more than sex peddling. Just so you know, don't click, it's a matter of morality.

I wouldn't be so sure. Spam of this kind usually has more than one purpose, and I would examine the health of your computer with a critical eye, if I were you. If this is a spambot, it's close to passing the Turing test. Interesting. Since I doubt a program of such sophistication would be produced for such a purpose, I'm more inclined to think a person. Anyway, whether for Blayne's reason or for mine, don't click on any links, people.

I have Windows Live Care and it hasn't found anything.

Avoid the links nonetheless.

Good. On reflection, and having seen more of the pattern, as you first picked up on it is merely repeating earlier posts and inserting call-girl links, which may or may not be perilous otherwise than morally, pretty much at random. Then there are also posts which are link-free replies to what has been said, which is where the Turing test comes in. My guess is a spambot which flags to a human operator when one of its posts has been replied to. The human operator then intervenes (or not). If this hypothetical person reads this, give up. This is not your target market.

When I think of spammers, I think of dark, damp, medieval dungeons.   If only.

Funnily enough, I've been reading about dungeons lately, in a book on Mproccan history, in which they feature largely. In 1914, the French general in charge of the Moroccan South called together the great lords to announce the outbreak of war and ask for their loyalty. The greatest among them, Madani El-Glaoui, replied that as he had pledged before, so would he perform.

He then called together the very numerous family members through whom he administered his vast territories, and announced his decision. A brother asked whether it would not be better to bargain for some rewards before giving the colonial masters pledges of support, in their current weakness. Madani's reply was oblique: "There are dungeons in Telouet (the family fortress) which no man has left alive or dead, once he entered them as a prisoner." Everyone seemed to take his drift, though, and consider the discussion over.

I've been merciless with the posts; I think they're all gone now.  I hope no one was particularly attached to their responses to "cocosan."  I particularly didn't want space on the ongoing "On This Day" thread taken up with that.  It will be as if "cocosan" never existed, except for this thread.

Not chained up? Pity. From a little earlier in Moroccan history there's a story of two brothers chained together in a dungeon. One of them died. Although it was the height of summer and roasting hot even in the dungeons, the local governor was afraid to remove the corpse from its chains, lest he should be accused of permitting an escape. So he sent to the Sultan for instructions. They took eleven days to come...

Then there's the story of the pretender who was captured, and after lengthy public exhibition naked in a tiny cage put in another cage, with lions. They were too well-fed, though, and just mauled him about without killing and eating him. Growing bored, the Sultan eventually ordered the malefactor shot. This was in 1909, by the way. But I guess even that's a whole hundred years ago.

PS Quite right about the posts, especially on that thread.

Yeah sorry, I didn't think she'd respond to me directly, but once she did I thought she could be reasoned with haha.

Was worth a shot, but as she said:

"We will only be here short time,"

Maybe she's some sort of royalty for using the Royal We

Strangely enough, cocosan is still welcomed on the front page as the newest member of this forum. Heh heh.

I know, the system does not delete the welcome message even after an account has been deleted.  Someone else will have to join before "cocosan" is no longer our "newest member."

(No, I don't want any existing members to create a new account for that purpose!!!!!)

(just in case anyone had that idea)

I just really hope she isn't the start of a trend. Because she could not be reasoned with.
