I've even seen things named after Mao and Che Guevara. It is this appalling ignorance about history that needs to be tackled. The fact is that Communism is seen as chic by a few too many people, but naming something after Hitler or Mussolini would provoke outrage.

Absolutely sickening. The people in charge of this restaurant ought to know better than to just lightly slap around the names of mass murderers thinking it'll gain them more business. And indeed, how long would, say, a German beer hall last if it was named "Der Fuehrer's Beer Hall"?

I guess they got more attention after all; just not in the way they expected! (For the record, I am myself a Vietnamese-American.)

The restaurant owners have relented for now, thankfully:

The thing that gets to people is that if you celebrate your own country's heritage you're being accused of "insensitivity" to ethnic minorities. But celebrating Mao, Che Guevara or Ho Chi Minh is evidently taken as a chic thing, despite Communism killing more than anyone else. And celebrating it is undeniably offensive to European, Asian and African immigrant communities who suffered from it.

It seems that being a Communist, Islamist or Irish Republican is acceptable, but being a conservative and patriot is not, according to the universalist and multiculturalist orthodoxy of the day. The education system, in the hands of the Left, have whitewashed it all.

Communist Chic is cruise control for the clueless and kooky (not in a nice way kooky- kooky in a too dumb for the Darwin Awards way kooky).

Sorry it happened in my state folks, I had hoped we had more intelligence than that to be honest, I guess not this time.

You know, I don't think the proprietors of the restaurant, its staff or customers are the real culprits here. The real culprits are the education system and media which have for decades perpetuated a romanticised view of "revolution" and "struggle" no matter what misery it brought. This is why groups like Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation are necessary today.

To further on this, I think I am going to put a few things out there that may not be popular. We know that our education system and media exhibit a left-wing bias which attacks our history, culture and traditions. Hence a generation learns nothing good about our way of life, culture, political and economic systems and thus don't want to defend anything.

However, one of the Left's favourite cannards is the lie that we in the West were somehow in the "wrong" in the Cold War, because we were "imperialists" and "oppressors". They will usually trot out Latin America, Indonesia, Spain and whatnot. Now, even we you agree that the actions of Franco, Pinochet and Suharto were indefensible (and the number of victims of Latin American regimes pales in comparison to Communist regimes, or even the Assads for that matter), ask yourselves this. Would there be such "excesses" during the Cold War if it weren't for the horrors of Communism in the first place? The answer is: I suspect less likely. It is Communism that is the much greater evil, not capitalism, "imperialism" or whatever the Left decides to be "fascism" (which isn't true fascism and thus renders the term meaningless). There I said it.
