USA may support Kurdish independence from Iraq in exchange for the KRG allowing US troops to remain in Kurdistan.

Excellent reading, thanks for posting. The problem is: What the USA might or might not do constantly changes with the whims of an incurious and easily distracted American leader to whom all weighty concepts -- “foreign policy,” “national security,” “the rule of law” “long-term strategy”, etc. -- are tiresome and meaningless blah-blah.

In light of what has gone on in recent years, any US ally would be somewhat naïve to bank on the fruition of assurances received from the current administration.

That's wrong. Trump has been a staunch supporter of Israel and Saudi Arabia, which are traditional allies of the USA.
