I consider the dissolution of Austria-Hungary a good thing, because the ethnic groups of Austria-Hungary lacked a shared national identity, but it was sad, that Hungary didn't become a Habsburg kingdom. Archduke Joseph August ought to have become king, because he was born in Hungary and considered himself a Hungarian. He was briefly the regent of Hungary in 1919 after the overthrow of the Hungarian Soviet Republic, but was forced to resign by the Allies on August 23 1919. Hungary was a de-jure kingdom during the interwar era, while not having a king. Joseph August would have been a far better choice for king of Hungary than Emperor Karl, who tried to regain the throne of Hungary in 1921. If the Hungarian monarchy is restored in the future, I want a descendant of Joseph August to become king or queen of Hungary.
