I think we should avoid expanding the definition of "fascism" too recklessly.  It does not make sense to refer to any pre-20th century regime as "fascist."  Fascism was at its core a revolutionary movement which at best tolerated, rather than fully embracing, monarchical and ecclesisastical tradition.  Mussolini always resented left-wing accusations that he had betrayed socialism.  Fascism glorifies the State---not the Crown, or the Church, or Tradition, and as far as the past is concerned had far more enthusiasm for pagan Rome than for Christendom.  Military aggression is a key component of fascism, yet Franco had no interest in bothering anybody outside Spain.

I'm not going on about expanding any definitions, I think I'm the only one here who has actually provided a sourced definition (two infact).  But I see that this discussion (and my posts) has diverged from the original topic, and has become more divisive than useful, so I'll shut up about it.
