The Mosquito Coast of Nicaragua, inhabited by the indigenous Miskito as well as a mixture of peoples, stands apart from the rest of Nicaragua due to its British influence and "Creole" (as opposed to Hispanic) culture.

From the 17th century onwards, the Miskito people were organised as a kingdom, which became a British protectorate. The kingdom retained its institutions and autonomy until the late 19th century. In 1894, following the Liberal Revolution in Nicaragua that brought Jose Santos Zelaya to power, they were finally incorporated into Nicaragua. It was consistent with the "liberal reforms" that emulated those seen in Guatemala and El Salvador since the 1870s- namely, the dispossession of indigenous peoples and peasantry from communal lands they had held for generations. But the royal family's descendants continue to this day. Over the decades, successive regimes in Nicaragua were even accused of genocide in this region. Although the eastern regions were granted autonomy, there are many pining for a restoration of an independent Miskito state.

If the people wished to do so, would Obama and the West send Tomahawks?

Economics are driving the most recent bid to regain independence- they have a fishing industry, and more recently there's oil.

Oil you say?
Maybe there is hope for a western supported rebellion.  Now how do we get the Monarchists to the 'winning side' in that?

May we have some more information about Miskito Kingdom,  Miskito Royal House ( is it of native american origin ? )  and about the actual Head of the House, if any ?
There is also a monarchist movement ?
