Surely Ode to Joy or Charpantier's Te Deum would be better European anthems.
Back when I wanted a united Europe (good thing I couldn't vote in 2016), I wanted Te Deum as the anthem.

Given that you're such a Bonapartist, I'm quite surprised you haven't picked Jean Christophe as Imperator Europae

Guy Verhofstadt, not a person with whose views I normally have much sympathy, has identified Viktor Orbán as the greatest threat to the future of the European Union. This was in response to the would-be autocratic head of a one-party state (actually he's already most of the way there, so would-be is perhaps a little behind the times) assuming dictatorial powers conferred by a compliant and submissive parliament. Which might be acceptable in the current world crisis, except that there is no time limit on the powers whatsoever. And no one is much trusting Orbán to ever give them up.

Can the nations of the EU accept a despotism among them? For them to do so would destroy the ethos of the institution, but to expel or even severely sanction Hungary would also be a potentially very damaging step. Nothing is likely to happen for now, but eventually Orbán and the other emerging Eastern European despotisms will have to be dealt with or the EU will become about as meaningful as the Confederation of Independent States (yes, it does still exist, though I wouldn't blame anyone for not realising).

The EU as a decentralized union of European States without questioning their individual governments would have been just fine, but the bureaucrats of Brussels want to enforce their will regarding Democracy and the very demanding issue of globalism and immigration when they do or don't realize they destroy the very unique culture and characteristics of Europe itself when doing it. Capitalist market Economy and even single currency in the future is a fine and fair demand for joining, but changing and challenging existing governments in the Union itself will lead to its breakdown because of the other demands.

The Coronavirus issue itself distances the current tendencies of Globalism even more by any nations enforcing its borders and security, the distance and maybe the coming collapse of the Communists in China, and once it would finally end I believe we shall see the nationalist cultural opinions grow even stronger.
