I don't know what to say to this.

I can't stand modern law. There is a piece of desert in the middle of nowhere with zero population and no prior claim to the land. Once upon a time, it was perfectly legitimate to strike it out on your own and peacefully settle unclaimed no man's land throughout the globe. Now, you need UN approval apparently. I say more power to these folks. If they can build something out of as close to nothing as it gets, I hope they continue to rule the place as benevolent absolutists without having some previously uninterested party intruding on their business.

Conquest is illegal b/c it is robbery, in a sense. Putin's annexation of Crimea (which was just like Hitler's annexation of the Sudetenland) is a crime.

The only unclaimed land is Antarctica, but the UN banned all claims by anybody there. B/c we don't need another war over snow.

Also, I do not consider declaring war on some African state so your daughter can be a real princess to be sensible parenting. Would anybody find it acceptable if the daddy had claimed part of the UK for his daughter's desires? I certainly hope not.

You neglected the part of the article where it said this land is unclaimed. It's well known that this land is unclaimed.

We've had a war over snow previously?

Well, the exiled King of Egypt already claimed this land decades ago, so I don't really see why this man's claim is getting any attention.

I actually got this piece of land wrong, I thought this guy tried to claim the Hala'ib Triangle. Oops. Whereas Egypt and Sudan both claim the Hala'ib Triangle, this patch of sand is actually unclaimed. And I'd never known it existed. Not that this Kingdom of North Sudan is likely viable.[frown]
