I'd like to say to AugieDoggie that I am from Moldova and I completely agree with you. It's a shame the lands haven't been reunited yet.

King Michael birthday was recently which allowed Ponta and Johannis to release competing birthday wishes. Macovei another candidate choose to celebrate Army Day instead of the King's birthday and Tarcieanu the only monarchist candidate actually didn't post any birthday wishes ironically.

With the election on Sunday candidates are on the final leg of campaigning in this interesting presidential election.

No, I've lived there for about half of my life.

The unusual aspect of this election is that most of the candidates here are either sympathetic to the idea of a vote on the monarchy, or are at least prepared to entrust that decision to the electorate. For monarchists everywhere it is simple: if we could succeed with just this one, it would be enough to be a trailblazer. Which is why we had to defeat the separatists in Scotland and did so: because if the "Yes" side had won, it would have given confidence to separatists in Europe and beyond to open all sorts of cans of worms.

The first round of the presidential election is over with Ponta and Iohannis going to a runoff as suspected. Tariceanu the monarchist came in third place with 5.40%. Here are the results on wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanian_presidential_election,_2014

Ideally we need Iohannis to win the election as he might be more open to the monarchy unlike Ponta. Also the PNL is known to have many members with monarchist sympathies to prevent Iohannis from renegading. My worry with Ponta who is the favorite is that he will turn it back on the referendum and just have used it for election vote getting(though the realist in me expects this to be true).

Monarchists will not or must not sleep and have a sufficiently well-organised and visible campaign. There is much at stake and much energy to be directed towards such, just like the Scottish referendum. We talked about Serbia, about other Balkan countries, about Georgia, but in Romania we have our best chance to initiate the trend.

I like how he invited people from Moldova as well. And I like how everyone in the comments refers to him as Majestate, or your majesty.

Reunification should have happened alongside restoration when Communism fell. How the issue of Transnistria and Gagauzia plays out remains to be seen.

Well, if the people of Moldova would overall want to retain their independence, I wouldn't object. It's a pitty the principality was recreated as a communist republic but that's the 20th century for you.

Perhaps a 'one crown two countries' idea could flourish with Romania and Moldova sharing a sovereign but still being independent countries in their own right? Plus we get two new Kingdoms to add to the map of Europe.

I would like to say that I have convinced people around me that Romanians and Moldovans are the same people and I think it could be easy to get more of them to view Monarchy as a possible from of government. I wish I could find some good books on Romanian history here in the US to use and build a case for Monarchy.
