One of the heroes and giants of the anti-Communist struggle along with Lech Walesa. RIP.

A class act.   We've lost too many great men this week.

Considering the week just started, I say you're jumping the gun.

Havel was a rare example of honesty and integrity in modern politics. It was people like him and Walesa, far more than Reagan and Thatcher, that helped bring the evil system down.

Yet there is a belief that Havel, like Walesa, was too forgiving after 1989.

Have you seen the recent Guardian article? Shame on them, what utter scum they are pandering to.

Without Reagan and Thatcher, Havel and Walensa would have been crushed. Without Havel and Walensa, and John Paul II, there would have been no local inspiration. All played a part. Gorbachev too; he may never have intended to bring down the Soviet system, but the choice for the first time of a decent man to head it proved a fatal error for the system itself.

As someone of Czech descent, it is a sad to hear of the death of a hero to my ancestral people.

Of course, the system couldn't take having an honest man leading it. Its a shame that Gorbachev has fallen to such obscurity.
