Friends, in honour of those who fought to keep us free! First of all, in specific honour of my Grandfather, Charles Albert Oxley, Trooper, 11th US Calvary, Private, US Coastal Artillery and Gunner, Royal Field Artillery (1914-1918), yes, he was a nutter! He enlisted in the RFA in 1915, two years before the US entered the war, so this is for him!
Over there, over there, Send the word, send the word over there That the Yanks are coming, the Yanks are coming The drums rum-tumming everywhere. So prepare, say a prayer, Send the word, send the word to beware - We'll be over, we're coming over, And we won't come back till it's over, over there. A video of a silent film from the period. It shows General of the Armies General John J. Pershing pinning a medal on a young soldier. My Grandfather received the Victory Medal from General Pershing personally on 11 November 1919 in Boston. __________________ 'Monarchy can easily be ‘debunked;' but watch the faces, mark the accents of the debunkers. These are the men whose tap-root in Eden has been cut: whom no rumour of the polyphony, the dance, can reach - men to whom pebbles laid in a row are more beautiful than an arch. Yet even if they desire equality, they cannot reach it. Where men are forbidden to honour a king they honour millionaires, athletes or film-stars instead: even famous prostitutes or gangsters. For spiritual nature, like bodily nature, will be served; deny it food and it will gobble poison.' C.S.
