Wow, a trip to Europe, I wish I could, I've had to turn one down because of the cost . BTW, great pics, they're masterfully done.

Who here would like to go with me to Vienna?  I'd like to write to the Emperor and see if we could meet with him in Vienna.  When I go next Summer to Egypt and Europe, I will for sure be going there, can't wait.

Has anyone here ever heard about the origins of the shape of the pretzel?  I read that when the Ottomans were attacking Vienna, they were building tunnels under the city walls.  Bread bakers that worked at night could here the Turks working at their tunnels beneath.  The bakers sounded the alarm, and the Turkish plans were foiled.  To commemorate the discovery of the tunnels, the bread bakers made pretzels in the shape of the symbol of Austria-the two headed eagle.  I think that today the shape has been slightly changed to allow for mass distribution and faster production.  I can see with some help from my imagination, two wings, maybe some heads and a crown, very basic in shape.  So it can really be said that all the World is known to Austria, through the pretzel, eaten today throughout the world.

Thanks TheEmperorsAdvocate for the delightful story of the origin of the Pretzel! But is it really true?I know for fact that the Polish King Ian Sobieski appeared on time to lend a help,a decisive assistanceto the defenders of Vienna and it is Thanks to him that The Turks were beaten and left Vienna never to return. As far as going to see the Emperor he is in Bavaria where is his official Residence.Karl the Heir apparent lives in Austria.May be in Vienna.Better write to him beforehand and sent lots of your pics and what you believe and are doing. And wait for answer.Ok?Thanks again for the pretzel story.I liked it very much! find more about other stories or delightful legends about the Austrians or the Habsburgs.
