Over the next few weeks I will be in Scotland (August 6-15) and Italy (August 15-22), where among other things I expect to visit many monarchical sites.    Somewhat ironically, updates to my website and participation in this forum may be infrequent during this time.   I hope to get some good pictures to post after I return!

If you go to Verona, stop by the Battlefield of Solferino for me.
Wish I could go with you.  Have a great time.

Has anyone here taken a "FAT TIRE" Bike tour?  The American-run company is based in Paris, Berlin, and Barcelona.  I took their Versailles tour and the Paris by night tour.  Loved it, the night tour was amazing.

Unfortunately my tour in Europe had an entirely different purpose.....

I did get some time 'on my own' while there, which I did enjoy a lot.
The Limes in Germany where my favourites there,
in Italy it was the Baptistery at Pisa,
in France I saw nothing to brag about (but I was taking shortest route from Andorra to Italy....),
in Spain the Castle of Segovia is 'tops' on my list,
in Portugal it is the monument to Columbus that I remember as being 'the must see' - though the cork trees should rate a mention.

In Greece and Turkey I had little time for sight-seeing, but the mountains of eastern turkey have a majesty that mere architecture can not match.
In England I had only 'one day' of freedom.  I did the Museum.

Brief greetings from Scotland.  (Pitlochry, to be specific.)  So far I've visited Edinburgh Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Scone Palace (where I got to play the Earl of Mansfield's 1813 pipe organ), and Stirling Castle--all magnificent.  Also saw the monument to Robert the Bruce at Bannockburn where the Scots defeated the English in 1314.

Welcome to the new members!

With regard to any "moderator" issues that may arise, remember that I will probably not have much time for the forum until August 23.   I think you'll all understand that when in Europe there are better things to do than sit at the computer!

Well, I'm back in the U.S..  It was a good trip and I highly recommend Scotland and Italy to all who have not yet been there.  Saw lots of monarchical sights in both countries.  Hopefully I'll have some pictures ready soon.

Note the links to blogs and various external sources of background information on each page.

Thanks to AaronTraas for helping me get the vertical pictures displayed vertically, and to Bummer, Lupo (pictured in the first picture on the Italy page), and their family for hosting me in Italy.

Very Cool-RoyalCello
I wish I would have been there.  Looks like you had good weather-that's rare for the U.K.  Beautiful palace in Italy, glad its been preserved.

I think I will be going to Ibiza (In the Balearics) in March or April.  I'm still hoping for Christmas in London as well.  Egypt and Europe next Summer!  But in the meantime I'm going to Virginia Beach and Savannah, Georgia.  -For botanical reasons.  How far are you from VA Beach, RoyalCello?  I want to go by way of the coast on the way down and return through the mountains.
