I never did explain my own avatar, did I?
The "Imperial Pelican" was spawned from an alternate historical concept (that is, Napoleon retaining Louisiana at least for another year or two, when he crowned himself Emperor). However, I suppose it could be used as a mockery of the Bonapartist regime as well. Funny how that works out.
Some background information: The 1800 Third Treaty of San Ildefonso set about, among other things, the retrocession of the Louisiana Territory from the Kingdom of Spain to the French First Republic (confirmed by the 1801 Treaty of Aranjuez), led at the time by "First Consul" Napoleon Bonaparte. The Corsican later sold Louisiana to the United States - a year before his own "Imperial" coronation, rendering His Catholic Majesty, Carlos IV of Spain, the last monarch of New France.
This brings me to my profile picture: every king of the Territory has been a direct male descendant of the Sun King - and so, sovereignty effectively rests with either the new King Felipe VI of Spain - or with His Most Christian Majesty, Louis XX, King of France and Navarre.
