How does one 'make' a language? There is no 'Montenegrin language'. There is, indeed, a Montenegrin dialect of the Serbo-Croatian language, but there can no more be a 'Montenegrin language' than there can be a 'Southern United States language'.

And as to the Church, it is not up to the Montenegrins. While I support their desires for an autocephalous Montenegrin Church, the decision must be made by the Patriarchs and Metropolitans of the existing autocephalous Churches.

You're right, of course, speaking as a linguist - the standard of mutual intelligibility applies to almost all of the "languages" of the former Yugoslavia - but the language issue, ridiculous as it is, is so politically charged in the Balkans that there's honestly no point arguing about it. If they want to call the language Montenegrin, so be it.

Macedonia and Ukraine have Orthodox churches out of communion, and there is even a tiny church in Turkey that is likewise.

Exactly my point. If the Montenegrins desire a Church in Communion with the Orthodox Church, it is not their decision. It is up to the Hierarchs of the other autocephalous Churches.
