Monarchism is enjoying a higher profile since the rise of President Bolosarno, and the new conservatism that is ascendant in Brazilian politics recently.  The repeated disfunction and corruption of the republican system in Brazil can only work to strengthen the idea of Monarchism and the movement for a parliamentary system headed by a constitutional monarch.  This recent article is predictably dismissive, but it does give valuable insight.

Brazilian monarchism being tied to the Bolsonaro government is a bad idea, because Bolsonaro is a right-wing extremist. Bolsonaro destroys the Amazon rainforest, supports neoliberalism, supports violence against gays, defends the legacy of the Brazilian military dictatorship and has proposed imprisoning socialist politicians.
I support the Brazilian Worker's Party and I admire Lula and Dilma Rousseff. Lula and Rousseff are staunch democrats, and their governments lifted millions of Brazilians out of poverty. Brazilian democracy was weakened by the coup against Rousseff in 2016. Bolsonaro supported the coup against Rousseff in 2016.
