I have (probably temporarily) locked the off-topic sections, and moved the Introductions thread to this section ("Guidelines, Announcements, and Introductions").  This is because, as I indicated here, I have been a little frustrated with the direction this forum has taken.  I would really like to see more talk about monarchy and royalism and less about religion and (hitherto primarily American) politics.  I'm not banning any particular topics, if they come up in the context of monarchical discussion, but I'm just trying this as an experiment to try to get things back in focus.  If this move is ineffective or extremely unpopular, I may change my mind, but I'd like to try this for a bit.

The subject of monarchy is a very small field.  If you severely restrict the site to only dealing with monarchy it may die off; There is only so much to talk about until you exhaust the subject matter.  It is not like one can write reams of info about monarchy every day.

My two cents: A site like this should be about community, a community of people who have  shared concern and love for monarchy.  Unless you want to clutter up the site with fluff monarchical threads, in between serious monarchical chatter, there can be other matters that people can talk on and we get a feeling about other people and their concerns.

I said this was a temporary measure.  Obviously I am aware of the desirability in general of off-topic discussions, or I would not have created those sections in the first place.  However, I was tired of the dominance of discussions about American politics or Christian theology and wanted to give specifically monarchical discussions more of a chance to flourish.  So far this has been moderately successful; you will notice that there have still been plenty of posts since I closed the off-topic forums.

I do not agree that the subject of monarchy is a "very small field," given the rich diversity and substantial histories of the many monarchies that have existed over time, and the many contemporary topics related to monarchy.  We have barely scratched the surface.  See, for example, this post.

I think we can find plenty to talk about while staying focused on Monarchies.

The trick will be to have as mush passion in favour of the institutions and persons that are 'monarchy' as we do against the current political environment.

I think this is a good idea.

You'll just have to get it back up at election time! But yes, this is a good idea I think. We need to focus on monarchy, not common politics. As members of a forum I used to frequent said when one brought up politics, save it for http://www.arguepolitics.com/

Noting that there hasn't been much activity lately, I have ended the experiment and unlocked the two Off-Topic Forums.  However, note that I have redefined them a bit.  All posts on substantial or controversial non-monarchical topics, whether or not they are strictly "political," should go in "Off Topic Serious"; I would like to keep "Off Topic General" reserved for posts of a more light-hearted nature.  I have moved older threads as necessary to reflect the new classifications.
