This is excellent years. There is no better figurehead to represent Iran's divergent resistance movements, who have been in dire need of unity and coordination. I wonder if civil disobedience and non-violence is really sufficient given the examples of Libya and Syria...

I think that the fall of the Islamic Republic of Iran is inevitable, and I expect to see it within our lifetimes. However, what I am less sure of is whether it will be replaced with a US-style republic or the traditional rule of the Shahs- let's hope and pray for the latter! I do think that Iran has a good chance of restoring its monarchy, though. Better than many other existing republics at least. The pro-monarchy Constitutionalist Party of Iran appears to be the largest and most notable of the exiled groups calling for the Islamic Republic's overthrow, which is a good sign.

I think the chances of a genuine democracy, which means constitutional monarchy, in Iran are much greater than in any Arab country. The question is, what will come first and how will one effect the other: regime change in Syria, or regime change in Iran? Like all such processes, Iran will have a host of historical legacy issues to deal with.

It is always nice to hear some monarch say something remotely controversial, or something that could be perceived that way. Like when Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark gave her opinion about Islam. It just made my day. Gives you the feeling that these are in fact not robots, and they do genuinely care for their people and nations.

Crown Prince Reza has an adroit sense of timing. He made his voice heard on behalf of long-suffering Iranians during the 2009 upheavals, and has done so again in light of the Syrian Civil War which might become Iran's "Vietnam" or "Afghanistan".

Work has to be done on:
- unifying the opposition
- mobilising its sympathisers within Iran. There are very many who are silent for their own safety.
- developing a strategy to force a collapse of the existing regime.

There really cannot be any waiting time regardless of what happens elsewhere in the region, work on this must begin now!
