Wow. When the standard bearter of the Left, the Guardian, admits that Hugo Chavez and his socialist policies are failing, you know how bad it is. The Left fellow-travellers in the West keep touting him and his model as one to follow. Oh wait, what about the vastly more successful models pursued by Asian nations like Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea? Lee Kuan Yew, for instance? "Progressives" will call you names if you defend regimes like that, but if you defend Chavez and Castro you're some kind of enlightened progressive. Typical.

In their inner minds I'm sure they'll just chalk it up to Chavez being "the wrong man" and that another man perhaps the fellow they mentioned that was running for president, would do a better job in planning an economy.

I doubt that this will cause them to reflect that collectivism not only can never work but is a vastly evil philosophy.

Their fantasies are being shattered, as it is in Bolivia where Evo Morales saw a huge drop in his popularity. This article is remarkably simply for the fact that it appeared in the Guardian, and depicts an honest and reasonable analysis of Chavez' failings.
