The entire history of Afghanistan's republican history is too divisive to teach now. The USA is funding these textbooks that stop at 1973 for history class. And yes, this is real.

Of course, the only plausible outcome of this way of teaching history is a student who doesn't question Afghanistan's monarchy. And then figures out that they're a republic, so promptly restores the monarchy to make sense of what they were taught vs. how Afghanistan developed after 1973.

As with Ethiopia, Afghanistan's last stable government was its monarchy. Too bad the US didn't restore Mohammed Zahir Shah - it was an option. Of course Bush, Cheney, L Paul Jerry Bremer and the others knew so much better...
