Reply with quote | #1 | Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall have arrived in Canada for their eleven day tour. I was heartened that the CBC referred to HRH as 'Canada's next King'!
From the CBC:
Charles, Camilla arrive in St. John's __________________ 'Monarchy can easily be ‘debunked;' but watch the faces, mark the accents of the debunkers. These are the men whose tap-root in Eden has been cut: whom no rumour of the polyphony, the dance, can reach - men to whom pebbles laid in a row are more beautiful than an arch. Yet even if they desire equality, they cannot reach it. Where men are forbidden to honour a king they honour millionaires, athletes or film-stars instead: even famous prostitutes or gangsters. For spiritual nature, like bodily nature, will be served; deny it food and it will gobble poison.' C.S. Lewis

Thanks. I hope the visit goes well. Usual loathsomeness and idiocy in the comments as fat as I read, I expect it kept up. I particularly liked the person complaining that Canada has to pay to fly Canada's future Head of State to Canada, Britain should have provided an RAF plane instead. And here was me under the impression that Canada was not a colony any more but a sovereign nation, and the Canadian Crown entirely separate and distinct from our own. I must have been wrong, better take the -General off Michaëlle Jean's designation, then. |

Anent the comments: I tend not to read them on articles like this because I can guess what they'll say! This PM, for the same reason I changed CBC Services for an hour and listened to classical Music on Radio 2. Our local call-in show on Radio One was on the monarchy and I didn't need elevated blood pressure, a heart attack or apoplexy! __________________ 'Monarchy can easily be ‘debunked;' but watch the faces, mark the accents of the debunkers. Reply with quote | #6 | The New York Times seem to have a tendency to write annoying and mean articles. |

Reply with quote | #7 | ...like assigning the new Queen Mother biography (which I've been enjoying) to a reviewer who obviously finds royalty and aristocracy inherently trivial and therefore was unsurprisingly bored by the book. |

I like the New York Times generally, but whenever there is a story about monarchy in it I'm invariably annoyed. __________________ The Lion of Judah hath prevailed. |
