The Saudi Monarchy is going through what is probably its most earth shattering and definitive events since King Abdul Aziz took over most of the Arabian penninsula and created the Kingdom.  Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is rounding up many of his royal cousins, high level government and court officials, and a couple of billionaires (including his cousin Prince Alwaleed bin Talal who owns large chunks of major international companies, the head of the Bin Laden family and Mohammed Al Amoudi, the half Ethiopian Billionaire) in what he's calling an anti-corruption drive.  Clearly though there is a lot more going on here than "corruption".  The Prime Minister of Lebanon suddenly resigned his office while visiting Saudi Arabia and blamed Hezbullah and Iran for plotting to assasinate him.    It now seems that he is also under detention in Jeddah. The President of Yemen is also said to be under arrest in Jeddah right now.  This has amped up tension between  considerably between the Saudis, Lebanon and their erstwhile allies in Yemen.  Saudi Arabia has ordered it's subjects out of both Lebanon and Yemen.  To top it off, a Saudi Prince Mansour bin Murqin was killed in a "helicopter crash" near the Yemeni border (with accusations that he was targeted by the Crown Prince), and a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted just a short distance from Riyadh.  Then yesterday came the rather shocking news that amid further royal arrests, Prince Abdul Aziz bin Fahd, favorite son of the late King Fahd and his closest aide (who many believed the late King had hoped to groom for the throne) was reported to have been killed in a shootout with the soldiers sent to arrest him.  He happens to have been a close business associate of none other that Prime Minister Harriri of Lebanon.  There have since been both denials and confirmations that the Prince was killed.  The Houthi rebles in Yemen have reportedly offered asylum to any royal princes of the House of Saud who may need to flee. There is a lot going on so I leave it to you to read and mull over.

It is being reported that King Salman of Saudi Arabia will abdicate the throne in favor of Crown Prince Mohammad within the next week, and keep only the title of "Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques".  At the same time there have been some rather adamant denials.  However, it seems not many people are taking the denials seriously.

With all due respect, Press TV is not a source that I would rely on.

Will it be an Arab-Iranian conflict or a chance for regime change and restoration in Iran?

This would cement all previous events as a clear and outright power grab by the Crown Prince. Let's see if anything actually develops here.

Meanwhile, Arab rhetoric against the regime in Iran is sharpening considerably:

The imprisonment of the Saudi Princes and Billionaires is looking increasingly like a shakedown for money.  The prisoners are apparently being offered their freedom in exchange for significant transfers of money from their fortunes into state coffers.  Some accounts say the demands are as high as 70% of their fortunes.  This is basically nationalization (robbery) of private property on the scale of some of the worst regimes but on an unprecedented scale. Obscene doesn't even begin to describe it.  I am no fan of the House of Saud, or of some of the detained people, and I applaud the Crown Prince's desire to promote a more tolerant and moderate version of Islam. But his methods are alarming and i fear he is playing with fire.
