The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are finally getting the credit they deserve.  One can only hope that the trend continues.

His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has issued a congradulatory message on the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.  The Pope has praised Elizabeth II for her "noble vision of the role of a Christian monarch".

I retain warm memories of the gracious welcome accorded to me by Your Majesty at Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh at the beginning of my Apostolic Visit to the United Kingdom in September 2010, and I renew my thanks for the hospitality that I received throughout those four days. Your personal commitment to cooperation and mutual respect between the followers of different religious traditions has contributed in no small measure to improving ecumenical and interreligious relations throughout your realms.

Commending Your Majesty and all the Royal Family to the protection of Almighty God, I renew my heartfelt good wishes on this joyful occasion and I assure you of my prayers for your continuing health and prosperity.

Happier news of the Duke of Edinburgh, who has left hospital after a six-day stay. I hope though that he (or his doctors) will be sensible and that he will have a few further days convalescing, rather than jump straight back into royal duties as the article suggests he might. I know what my money would be on, though ....

We can hope his doctors order it! Otherwise....

I purchased Gary Barlow's "Sing" album which celebrates the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and benefit's the charities endorsed by the Queen for her Jubilee.  I know not all of you are really into the type of music on this rather short album, but I encourage you to buy it in aid of these worthy causes under Her Majesty's patronage.

Additionally, I'm sure all of you will be very moved by the lovely rendition of "God Save the Queen" that is on this album.  Even this non-anglo-heritage naturalized American citizen who was born a subject of an Ethiopian Emperor got chills down his spine when he heard it.

The Queen's four-month tour of the kingdom ends today with a visit to the Isle of Wight. It was not just the Thames procession that got rained on, this has been the wettest summer on record. However the endless-seeming downpours finally did end a few days ago and we now have a heatwave. I'm not sure that I didn't prefer the rain, but I guess this is much better for the Olympics, opening which will, I imagine, be Her Majesty's first public appearance after the prolonged Jubilee celebrations. Which have, weather or no weather, been by any reckoning a grand success.

The Jubilee celebrations in Britain seem a long time ago now, but we are still in Jubilee year, and the event is still being marked in other Commonwealth Realms. The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall for example have recently been on tour in Papua New Guinea as part of the festivities, and are now in Australia. This picture of the Prince watching children play cricket at the Melbourne Cricket Ground caught my eye on a cricket site I visit:

And here His Royal Highness is having a go himself:

And he's wearing his Remembrance Day Poppy! Good on him. I assume it's the Australian model, since it's neither a Canadian nor a British model.

That's a good question, actually. And it's spelled DIAMOND. Also, Theodore, the Diamond Jubilee is over, should this thread still be pinned?
