Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II hosted an event for the Royal Acadamy of the Arts on Wednesday to mark her Diamond Jubilee.  Among the many members that attended were Paul McCartney and his wife, U2 front man Bono, Apple computers designer (and newly knighted) Jonathan Ive, Dynasty actress Joan Collins and clothing designer Vivienne Westwood.  Paul McCartney declared himself a "big fan" of the queen, and Irish born Bono praised the Queen for the "magic" of her trip to Ireland and praised her for speaking Gaelic there, noting that he himself couldn't speak the language.

Sadly, one of the Queen's cousins and closest friends, Lady Margaret Rhodes, will be missing the Jubilee festivities as she has fallen and broken her hip while on holiday in Spain.  Lady Margaret is the daughter of an elder sister of the late Queen-Mother, and lived with the then Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret at Windsor castle during the war for a time while she worked with British intelligence services.

A lego model of the queen wearing a real diamond crown has been made to mark the Queen's jubilee.  The ways people are choosing to  commemorate this event are very interesting indeed.

Ten years to the date after my first trip to the United Kingdom for the Golden Jubilee, I'm off to London tonight on my sixth, to celebrate Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee!!!  Looking forward to seeing Peter again and meeting Seth, perhaps other forum members as well.  God Save the Queen!

Did you land at Heathrow airport? It has been wonderfully decorated for the Jubilee.

Hi to everyone here! I wanted to join a royal forum but never got round to it! I was wondering if anyone on here might know some info about the jubilee to help me! I am going to the mall early on Tuesday to try and see the carriage precession and wondered which side of the carriage the Queen will sit on. Is it always the right? I want to be positioned well!! Thank you to anyone who might know and could help me!

His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh has been hospitalized with a bladder infection, so unfortunately he will be missing the rest of the Jubilee festivities.

For the benefit of those who are not on Facebook, I'll copy (edited into first person) what I posted there:

I will never forget for as long as I live this incomparably glorious day...from arriving at the Mall by 7 AM and securing a prime spot in the front row behind the barrier near Clarence House, to catching a first glimpse of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as they left for St Paul's, to waving at (and identifying a few of) the extended royal family as they passed by in buses, to the incredible thrill after waiting for hours of finally seeing first the Queen (with the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall) and then William & Catherine and Pr Harry pass by in their open-topped carriages despite the rain, somehow photographing them despite tingling and trembling and screaming with excitement, and finally surging towards the Palace, that citadel of majesty, the centre of any Anglophilic royalist's universe, with a perfect view of that one and only balcony, as the Sovereign and her heir's immediate family emerged to the thundering roar of the crowd and the Royal Air Force flew past above. This was an event of a lifetime. God Save the Queen!

Thanks for the update! I'm one of those not on facebook, but it's nice to hear you have a good time (and nice you even have some time to clear spam here). Were the others from this forum with you all the time?

Peter, Seth, and NewElizabethan all came to my private recital on Saturday. Wacthed the flotilla on Sunday with Seth and some new friends from the British Monarchist Society. Watched the concert Monday with NewElizabethan and another new BMS friend. Procession etc today with Seth. Pictures for the forum will probably have to wait until after I return to the US on the 18th.

Don't rush yourself - this way I'll have something pleasant to look at after a weekend with probably very unpleasant Greek elections. I just saw the video message where Queen Elizabeth thanked everyone for making the last few days so wonderful for her. Very kind words. Long time ago the news had such a positive item (although it was followed by another item with some Golden Dawn thugs beating up immigrants).

The BBC has been receiving a well deserved tounge lashing from many very irrate viewers who thought it's coverage of the jubilee (particularly the river pagent) to be terrible.

President Obama issued a rare video homage to the queen on her Diamond Jubilee wishing her many more years to "reign supreme".
