The Swiss town of Moutier will decide in a referendum on transferring from Bern to Jura in June.
Jura was ruled by the Prince-Bishops of Basel for centuries, in fact it was the centre of the Prince-Bishopric's temporal authority after the Reformation. In 1815, the Jura region was given to Bern in the Congress of Vienna. However, the French-speaking Catholic Jura didn't like domination by German-speaking Protestant Bern. In 1979, Jura was created a new canton after Jura voters approved the creation of the Canton of Jura in a referendum following a decades long struggle, but it didn't unite all the Jura "homeland" but only three of the seven districts of historical Jura.
