More reliable polls indicate (earlier in this thread) that as of recently, support for the Royal House is hovering just under 40% and in increasing at a rate of 2% per year. It should be noted that such support is outnumbered by republicans, who number about 47% or so. Luckily, there will not be any referendum on monarchy this year, given that presidential elections are scheduled for November or December. So we won't shoot ourselves in the foot by losing a referendum held too soon, before support for monarchy in Romania has consolidated. What would help is a President favorable to restoration, like Crin Antonescu perhaps. And we need further increases in pro-monarchy sentiment in the country. We need at least parity between republicans and monarchists in order to have a good chance at winning a referendum.

I do hope it happens. King Michael is not the youngest and we've seen cases like this where the royalist cause was set back indefinitely due to not enough action being taken in this sort of situation. I'm specificaly reffering to Afghanistan and King Mohammed Zahir Shah.

I DO hope this will actually happen. Honestly the whole idea of a royalist restoration is only held back by many people assuming it's a lost cause and thus not advocating it.

An interesting article about a presidential candidate who happens to be a monarchist asking him if it is contradictory for him to run for president being a monarchist. He defends his monarchist views and kinda hints if he wins he probably would restore the monarchy. He currently is in third place in the polling. This election looks promising as the top 3 candidates are either public monarchists or have a huge respect for the monarchy.

This two weeks old but promising. Elena Udrea who is currently number 4 in the polls for president wants a referendum for the monarchy. One party in her coalition for president is officially monarchist even abandoning  presidential elections as a boycott however they have decided its better to enter the field then stand from outside yelling in. This election keeps looking more promising all we really need is if Victor Ponta comes out for the monarchy or referendum especially since he is neck and neck(in the 2nd round though if both make it) with Klaus Iohannis who is part of the party of Crin Antonescu.

Very exciting indeed!  If King Michael is restored to his throne, he will be the only reigning Orthodox monarch in the world since the fall of Emperor Haile Selassie in Ethiopia fell in 1974, and in Europe since King Constantine II of Greece was formally deposed in 1973

President Traian Basescu made an interesting comment today at the PTNCD(known monarchist party) congress saying "I see no impediment to organize a referendum on republic-monarchy" he also says the issue of the monarchy will be discussed at a time. President Basescu is known to be very republican so this was kinda a shock. Maybe we can expect a referendum or restoration soon especially with a constitutional referendum in 2015.

That's encouraging. I certainly hope this will come to pass. King Michael is remarkable but he can't live forever. He deserves to end his days as a reigning sovereign.

Now that even Basescu is conceding the likelihood of a referendum, I'm really on the edge of my seat hoping one comes, and that the monarchists win. Republicans still hold the advantage in the polls, only needing a small portion of the undecideds for a majority, but monarchism been increasing at an average of 2% a year, so hopefully that increases faster if we're to have a referendum soon.

The new PTNCD leader prefers a referandum for the monarchy as an alternative he wants to revise the legal solution around King Micheal's abdication. Most monarchists feel that having a referendum to soon is to risky. 2018 is the 100 anniversary of the Union of Transylvania with Romania making that the most desired date for a referendum. PNL and PSD leaders prefer to have a discussion on the monarchy after the election as not to add another issue to the current election and to debate longer.

I'm too much of a jaded pessimist for all of this. I can't help but expect that this will all end in tears.

Calin Popescu-T─âriceanu the only openly monarchist candidate for president has released his opinion on the recent Basescu comment finding it offensive due to his past relation with the Royal House. He said the President overstepped his boundary by attending a rally in support of Elena Udrea(who also supports a referendum) and by deceiving the people into thinking he is having a monarchist turn around at the end of his term as a way to get monarchists to vote for Udrea.
