I beleave this is the right time for the Ethiopian monarchy to be restored to the throne.   Let look at the monarchy of Spain how it was restored when the dictator Francisco Franco declared that the monarchy will be restored after his death.  The same thing can happen in Ethiopian for the monarchy.

Well, we can hope but in thismodern age of Demcoracy an in the currnet climate of "Spreadign Democracy' under the presumption that democratic peace will overtake the world, I doubt it.

More than liekly any attemt at restorign the monarhcy woudl be seen as creatign a dictatorship, and the UN and US woudl get invovled ot help create a stable and peaceful Democracy in Etheopia. Of ocurse stable and peaceful will be in theory, as will the freedom that is automaticllay asusmed be.

The reality is htat it'd become a battleground for politicans and decend into political Chaos like Zimbabwe.

But, if the Etheopians are ise they will ignfoe the Internaitonal presusres, and hopefully reestablish a Monarhcy. We need moe Africans Kings.

Ethiopia is a parliamentary democracy (at least on paper).  The leader of the largest party in parliament is the Prime Minister, and the party selects a ceremonial President who currently resides in the Jubilee (re-named National) Palace where Emperor Haile Selassie once lived.  In actual practice, the Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) has firm control of the government ever since they toppled dictator Mengistu Haile Mariam in 1991.  They have proven to be very intolerant of oppostion and only alllow other parties a marginal participation in public life.  They are also very anti-monarchist having once esposed Albanian style Marxism, but having dropped that in favor of "Revolutionary Democracy" which seems to have Chinese influence (Capitalist economic system coupled with one party dominance).  The current ceremonial President of Ethiopia, Girma Wolde Giorgis, is a former Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament during the reign of the Emperor, and has been restoring some of the old Imperial trappings to the office of Head of State.  Theoretically, it should be simple to switch from a ceremonial Presidency to a Constitutional Monarchy, but the politics of the current regime make it very unlikely to happen during their rule.  We are hopeful of the future though.

For the monarchy to return Ethiopia and be restored they must do three things.  The first thing they must do is to reach out to the people they must have and effective campaign to address why the monarchy need to be restored and how it can benefit the people.  The Second thing they must do is to get support from key individuals in the government who are systematic to the monarchy and will work to push to restore the monarchy in Ethiopia.  The third one the imperial family must want to restore the monarchy they must begin the process in restoring the monarchy by encouraging monarchist movements in Ethiopia and in the African diaspora that support the restoration of the monarchy.  They also must encourage the current head of the imperial family to start pushing towards establishing the restoration of the monarchy the imperial crown council of Ethiopia must see this through.

The current regime would have to be defeated in order for a restoration. The next elections aren't until 2010 (and those will probably be fixed). In other words don't hold your breath.

Is there any current news about the Ethiopian monarchy?  Are they willing to begin the process to restored the monarchy?  Do the crown prince have any political connections in the Ethiopian government?  Ethiomonarchist may me and you should think about creating a monarchist movement to work with the imperial crown council of Ethiopia to restore the monarchy.

NO!!!, not a chance, the ruling ERPDF are a bunch of COMMIES. Look at their logo:

That cogwheel, that bent wheat, that yellow star, it all looks pretty Red to me. In case you haven't noticed cummunists and monarchy have never in the history of the world coexisted.

Unless the ERPDF is defeated there WILL NOT, be a restoration of the Empire. And there's not a whole lot Americans can do about it, pray maybe, or give money to the opposition parties for the 2010 campaign (which would be a waste because the election will probably be fixed).

Yes, indeed, the EPRDF (Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democratic Front) have very deep Marxist roots, and at one time espoused "Albania Style" Communism.  Any political party with the words "Peoples", "Revolutionary" and "Front" in the name can pretty much be guaranteed to have some kind of Marxist ideology.  Although they have embraced the free market and have gone about pursuing personal and organizational wealth rather rapaciously, they still hold on to their one party domination ideology (although they do allow opposition parties a limited existance).  The emblem pragmatist posted is the emblem of the EPRDF.  Below are the Coats of Arms of the Goverments that have ruled Ethiopia in the past (as opposed to the party emblem).

The Emperor of Ethiopia (Monarchist) pre-1974

The Provisional Military Administrative Council (Derg) (Marxist-Leninist/Communist Military Junta) 1974-1986

The Peoples Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (Derg) (Marxist-Leninist Military Junta converted to Civilian Communist One Party Government)  1986-1991

Except in Europe where People's, Volk, Popular(e), etc. usually indicate conservative/right wing parties, usually with a Catholic, or at least non-denominational Christian, background. The Christian Democratic grouping in the EU Parliament is the European People's Party, for example.

The Emperor of Ethiopia's personal standard.  The standard was the Ethiopian Tricolor (Green, Yellow, and Red horizontal stripes.  In each corner of the flag was an image of the Ethiopian Star of Solomon (the Star of David with a Cross in the Center).  At the Center of the front of the Flag was an Image of St. George Slaying the Dragon (St. George was a Patron Saint of the Empire of Ethiopia, of the Ethiopian Military and of the Imperial family), surrounded by the chain of Solomon's Seal (Ethiopia's Highest Imperial Order).  The back of the flag had an image of the Lion of Judah, crowned and holding a cross tipped standard of green yellow and red, and also surrounded by the chain of Solomon's Seal.
