Despite all the denials, many in Afghanistan believe the regime in Iran is actually collaborating with the Taliban or parts of it, its supposed religious enemy. In reality, the gap is not as large as you might imagine.
Sayyid Qutb and Abdul Ala Maududi influenced much of modern Islamist thinking, perverting Islam into a revolutionary religion destroying the established order. They also influenced the thinking of Khomeini, who himself acknowledged Maududi's influence on the Islamic Revolution in Iran.
Indeed, Maududi influenced much Islamist thought in Pakistan, which subsequently translated into the emergence of the Taliban.
