It's idealised, but yes. There's still a little bit in cricket like that, the game standing for more than just itself, and people strive to defend that quality. Thanks, very interesting to watch.

Now, where is the one for those who are 'uneducated'?
A 'documentary of how the game is played' for those who know nothing?

I'm not sure there is one. I have looked, but found nothing satisfactory. I started being interested in cricket myself at a late age, already in my thirties. It has taken the decades since for an understanding of it to really seep into me, and still I know that I will never rival my peers who were brought up to it. Well, they listen to me and think I have things worth saying, but I know there are things they take for granted that I will never properly grasp.

Is it so complex a game? Not really, but a subtle and at the same time brutal and even vicious one. There is no other game that so exposes character and skill, because there is no other game that is conducted over so long a period; precisely the thing Americans often complain of. One American convert, the late Sir Paul Getty who became one of the great cricket benefactors (and credited Sir Mick Jagger, whom I have often seen on TV at matches, for his conversion), said that cricket compared to baseball is like chess to checkers.

Which was unkind to baseball, a fine sport, but not entirely awry. Actually I have had most success in explaining cricket to Americans and Canadians by explaining its differences to baseball; in many ways it is an exact reverse, but the comparison with something they understand seems to help. I'll maybe try something like that if you would like.

I would like.

I've watched Indians (Yellow) play in Lake City.
One can't follow the game without a score card - the score-card is useless if you can't keep up with the game.....
