The third part of this series shows relationships between the sovereigns of the other European nations and those of the German Realms. Wilhelm II of Germany is here treated as a German Realms sovereign, which he was as King of Prussia. The relationships shown for him are naturally the same as those that appeared in part one.

There are six charts altogether in this part, between them showing 438 different relationships, through 84 ancestors and between 38 sovereigns. The first three charts cover relationships between the Catholic sovereigns of the other European nations and first the Kings and Grand Dukes of the German Realms, then the Dukes, then the Princes. This pattern is repeated for the Protestant and Orthodox sovereigns of the other nations in the final three charts, as before excluding the Kings of Serbia and Montenegro from the Orthodox sovereigns as they had no blood relationships to display. The two sets of charts for the Dukes and Princes are regarded as actually being two charts that each had to be split, rather than four separate entities, so statistical summaries appear after the key for the second chart in a set and cover both of its charts. The figures in brackets after names in the keys do however pertain to the particular chart.

The first three charts now include a full set of nearest relationships for the Princes of Monaco and Liechtenstein, rather than the example relationships that were shown before. Four tables of combined statistics follow the charts and keys. In these, please read II and IV as II a-b and IV a-b; to have put this in the headings would have distorted column widths. There is no note on posterities, as parts one and two at least sketchily covered these for all the sovereigns in this part. I have however provided a small visual coda after the statistics tables.

The lines introducing it are from a poem in Old English, usually known as The Wanderer (click here for a beautiful reading of it). Considered one of the masterpieces of Anglo-Saxon literature, as is normal with these we have no clue as to who the author might have been and only guesses as to the date of composition, though almost certainly first millennium. The chosen lines seemed to me to be an appropriate heading, especially if you look at their context (92a; if you click the hash mark the footnote revealed is interesting).

These charts are dedicated to my late mother, who died during the time that I was preparing them.

For an explanation of how to read the charts, click here.
